The interior of Take A Hike is designed to remind you of
the outdoors. The ceiling is painted to resemble a bright blue
sky and, off in the horizon, you'll see lush green mountains.
These distinctive murals were completed by local artist Michael
O'Connor. Michael is now painting Rainforest Cafes worldwide.
Take A
Hike's distinctive logo is the work of graphic designer Garry
Walker of Simcoe, Ontario. Garry has also completed work for
The Hudson Bay Company and Beaver Canoe.

a complimentary waterproofing treatment with every pair
of footwear purchased. Yes, more good old-fashioned service!
Unlike other
outdoor sporting goods stores, Take A Hike has a log cabin
nestled in the back filled with unique gifts
for the home, garden and cottage. Among the treasurers your
will find are handcrafted bent shaft paddles by Canadian paddler
and paddle maker, Don Meany of Atikokan, Ontario.

In 1994, Diane Petryna read a business article that changed her
life. The article was entitled "Take A Hike" and discussed
the growing popularity of outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking,
camping and canoeing---especially among women. With a background
in recreation administration, market research and business counselling,
Diane decided it was time to make a change.
